Resubmitting a Corrected Filing (Common Pleas only)
When a filing is submitted, the court reviews each document in the submission for completeness and accuracy. If there is a problem with a filing, the court can respond in one of two ways. First, with certain PACFile data entry errors, such as a document being filed on the wrong case, the court will reject the filing unconditionally. These filings cannot be fixed so, if the document is going to be resubmitted, a new filing must be created from scratch. Second, in some restricted scenarios, usually when the problem is limited to an error with one of the submitted documents, the court will return the filing on the condition that the filer will update it and resubmit.
Reasons for Returning a Filing for Correction
The information that follows describes the circumstances in which the court might request a corrected filing:
-
Missing Documents - Each filing created through PACFile has a minimum requirement regarding the type of documents that need to be submitted. This system requirement, however, does not address any county-specific document requirements. It is possible, therefore, to submit a filing that meets PACFile's requirements but not all of those that apply to the filing county. These additional requirements, if any, are standardized by each county and any questions regarding these policies should be referred to the filing office where the document is being filed.
-
Incorrect Document - It is possible for a filer to upload and submit a document that does not match the selected filing name. For example, this type of return might occur if the filing name selected in PACFile is Motion for Continuance and the actual document submitted is Motion to Withdraw as Counsel.
-
Incomplete Document - A document that is missing key information or a required signature may be returned to the filer for correction.
-
Illegible Document - If the court cannot read all or part of the document that has been submitted, often due to poor scan quality, it can be returned with the request to provide a more legible version.
-
Incomplete Filing - This is a catchall category for filings that have been returned for some reason unrelated to one of the submitted documents. This most likely occurs when information recorded on one of the tabs within the PACFile Filing Wizard was entered incorrectly or omitted entirely (ex. the list of case participant is incomplete).
Resubmitting a Document that was originally created by the Filer
The following steps can be used when a filing has been returned for correction, but the document that was uploaded to the filing is defective. These steps assume that the document has already been corrected outside of PACFile and is ready to be uploaded to the filing for resubmission:

How to Correct and/or Submit an Approved Filing
Resubmitting a document that was originally created by PACFile
When a filing has been returned and the problem relates to information that was auto-populated on a PACFile-generated document, the correction process is unique. This occurs when information recorded within the filing wizard is incorrect or omitted, such a participant name, address, phone number, or other demographic detail, and this was reflected on the PACFile-generated document. To fix this type of issue, it is necessary to open the filing through the Filing Return for Correction notification and then navigate to the appropriate tab of the wizard where the information can be modified. This step must be completed before the PACFile-generated form is recreated.
After fixing the issue, click on the Filing Documents tab and delete the document that is the basis for the return. If you did not save a copy of the defective document prior to submission, you may want to do that first if the defective document will be useful in recreating the corrected form. The revised form can be created following the same steps completed during the original submission.
